Bouteflika - Mubarak talks lead to strong Algerian - Egyptian economic ties

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held a lengthy session of talks early in the day with Algerian President Abdel Aziz Bouteflika, the president of the current OAU session, whom Mubarak said was an old and close friend with him.

Mubarak-Bouteflika talks covered Arab and African issues as well as bilateral relations, which President Mubarak termed as excellent.

Mubarak spoke about strengthening economic relations with Algeria and said "They will further see a high leap in trade exchange, economic cooperation and joint ventures in the coming stage." He added "Bouteflika demonstrated his country's desire to expand the work of Egyptian contracting companies in Algeria to execute the gigantic projects there."

"The Arab contractors are building a gigantic premises for the Algerian ministry of finance and its agencies and there are more projects to follow," he added. "We are working now to hold an expanded pan-Arab Summit, and although there are still reservations and opposition from some Arab leaders, we are determined to resume the efforts to hold the Summit by autumn," Mubarak indicated.

The President revealed that some countries are joining Egypt in its pursuit for holding the Summit, namely Algeria and Morocco as well as a number of other countries. All of these countries request that the Summit be held in Cairo and they have suggested it to be held in autumn and we will move on with this trend, the President affirmed.
