Algeria determined to materialize cooperation ties with Morocco, Algerian diplomat
Algeria-Morocco, Politics, 7/14/1999

Algerian ambassador to Morocco Mihoub Mihoubi said on Tuesday that his country is determined to materialize cooperation ties with neighboring Morocco.

The diplomat, who was interviewed by Moroccan Bayane Al-Youm daily, voiced satisfaction over the positive evolution of Moroccan-Algerian relations. Rabat and Algiers earnestly endeavor to shield their relations from all that is likely to disturb them, he stressed.

In his interview, the Algerian diplomat said that in all the messages he addressed to King Hassan II, President Bouteflika voiced determination to materialize brotherly relations and neighborliness with Morocco and pledged to deal with Morocco and its sovereign with sincerity and faithfulness.

He recalled that the visit Moroccan Interior Minister Driss Basri paid to Algeria last June paved the way and enabled to devise a methodology to lift bilateral relations to the aspirations of the two neighboring Maghreban peoples.

The positive evolution of Moroccan-Algerian relations will undoubtedly have positive repercussions on the march of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), a regional grouping set up in 1989 in Marrakesh (Morocco) by Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.

The official recalled in this regard the holding early next October of the UMA ministerial council to prepare for a Maghreban summit before the end of the year.
