Lebanon-Israel, Military, 7/14/1999
The April Understanding monitoring committee started on Tuesday its meeting in the Lebanese border town of al-Naqoura in order to discuss some 37 Lebanese and Israeli complaints.
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation forces continued their attacks against areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon. Lebanese sources said he understanding committee is to discuss some 16 Lebanese complaints, foremost being the recent Israeli aggression which targeted the Lebanese infrastructure in the electricity generation stations and bridges linking the Lebanese areas and resulted in killing nine civilians and wounding another 62.
The Lebanese sources expected that the meeting will take a longer time due to the numerous complaints under discussion. The sources added that this meeting by the understanding committee is considered a victory for Lebanese diplomacy, which foiled three Israeli attempts to undermine the April Understanding.
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation forces shelled, using heavy artillery several areas in the al-Tuffah district, reinforced their positions in Hasbaya and expanded the roads from Zamraya until Eable al-Saqqi in order to facilitate the theft of Lebanese soil for the Israeli settlements according to reports from the south. The previously stolen top soil has yet to be returned to Lebanon.
The Lebanese Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, asked Lebanon's representative at the UN to make a move at the UN in order to investigate the matter of Israel's theft of Lebanese soil from al-Dardara plain and Murj al-Khayyam in the Marjyoun district.
