Regional-OAU, Politics, 7/13/1999
The draft of the concluding statement for the meetings of the Organization of African Unity, currently meeting in Algeria, urged the world's countries to respect the rights of the continent's people to self-determination and to confirm their sovereignty and right to independent and continuous development.
ArabicNews.com obtained a copy of the draft resolution, named "the Algeria declaration."
The statement reviews the continent's struggle for independence and liberation in addition to the issues of the inherited border problems from the colonial period, electricity and economic problems.
The declaration assured the continent's intention to work to guarantee peace and stability and establish relations based on cooperation, factional multiplicity and supporting economic and social development in the African continent.
