King Fahd calls for lifting the embargo from Libya
Saudi Arabia-Libya, Politics, 7/13/1999
The Saudi Press Agency quoted Saudi Arabia's King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz as asserting the "the importance of lifting the (sanctions) from the brotherly people of Libya, especially as Tripoli have positively responded to two UN resolutions concerning the question of Lockerbie."
The Saudi king added that there is no justification for delaying the final lifting of the sanctions. He called for adopting positive measures that will permit the people of Libya to continue their daily life without obstacles and enable them to carry out a positive role in the interests of their country and the international community, alike.
Saudi Arabia and South Africa took part in mediation that resulted in last March in settling the question of Lockerbie through convincing Tripoli to hand over its two citizens who are suspected of being involved in the explosion of a Pan Am plane over Scotland which resulted in killing some 270 persons, passengers in the plane and persons on the ground, in December 1988.
