Some 400,000 persons face starvation in Somalia
Somalia, Local, 7/13/1999
The FAO said that more than 400,000 persons are facing the danger of starvation in Somalia. In a special report the FAO, which takes Rome as its headquarters, said that the civil war and the hot weather, the scarce rainfall as well as infectious diseases have all been conducive to starvation, especially in the southern parts of Somalia.
The organization made it clear that Somalia is in need of food aid from the international community until the year 2000. The FAO report added that at least one million persons suffer from a food shortage while another 400,000 are facing the consequences of starvation.
