Moscow supports building new petroleum pipeline between Syria and Iraq
Iraq-Syria-Russia, Politics, 7/12/1999
Iraqi sources in Cairo said today that Iraqi and Syrian experts discussed with representatives of some of Russian petroleum companies establishing a new petroleum line between Damascus and Baghdad and reviving the Karkouk - Banias line that has stopped since the 1970s due to political disputes between the two countries.
The sources said that Moscow showed a readiness to support this project politically and technically, whose cost reaches a $1 billion, which will ease Baghdad's dependence on petroleum pipelines between Turkey and Iraq in addition to enhancing ties between Damascus and Baghdad.
