Speaker of Tunisian Parliament ends visit to Rabat

The speaker of the Tunisian chamber of representatives, Fouad Mebazza, wound up on Sunday a four-day official visit to Morocco, during which he was received by King Hassan II.

Mebazza told reporters he conveyed to the sovereign congratulations of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali on the occasion of Youth Day marking this year the sovereign's 70th birthday.

The speaker of the Tunisian Parliament expressed satisfaction at the talks he held with Moroccan officials and MPs and said the visit provided opportunity to discuss the two parliaments' common goals and means to adopt common stands at international fora.

The Moroccan-Tunisian talks covered bilateral relations and the edification of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) as well as the democratic gains achieved by the two Maghreban countries and the role of legislative institutions in consolidating the rule of law and in upgrading economic and social development.

Both sides voiced satisfaction at the new climate prevailing in the region and that heralds the revival of the UMA and stressed the need to make up for the lost time and push forward the Maghreban march to enable the countries of the region take up the economic and social challenges thrown at them.
