Egypt says mission between Algeria and Morocco is not mediation but good offices
Egypt-Maghreb, Politics, 7/12/1999
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said the mission that his country is conducting between Morocco and Algeria is not a mediation but a mission of good offices.
In a statement to the Egyptian news agency MENA, the Egyptian foreign minister said his country's mission between the two north African countries is one of "good offices destined to lay bridges between Arab countries."
To a question on Egypt's application to become a member of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA, comprising Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia), Moussa said Egypt, which has an observer status at the union, is part of the north African geographic space to which the UMA countries belong.
