Arabic the second compulsory language in Israel
Israel, Education, 7/12/1999
Israeli Education Minister Yossi Sarid on Sunday stressed that the Arabic language will be kept as the second compulsory language in the Israeli schools. Sarid added that Arabic will continue to be taught as a second compulsory language in Israeli schools, and thereby expressed his rejection of an earlier decision taken by the Israeli Ministry of Education.
He added that studying Arabic has become more important, especially as Israel is at the door of a new phase of the Middle East peace process.
