UAE paper calls on Iran to resort to reason
United Arab Emirates-Iran, Politics, 7/12/1999

The United Arab Emirates' al-Itihad daily on Sunday called for "resorting to the voice of reason" at a time when Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi is expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia in order to discuss making direct negotiations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi to settle the conflict between the two countries over three disputed islands in the Gulf.

AFP quoted the said UAE daily as saying that, "The ball is now in the Iranian court, and Iran has to act accordingly so as to accept the voice of reason to start a set and clear dialogue to find a solution to this case or to resort to the International Court of Justice or international arbitration."

The UAE daily called for "serious dialogue" as the sole way to end any disputes, stating that the international law is the civilized means to settle any conflict or dispute.
