Lebanon decides to stop trips of Bulgarian company Balkan to Beirut
Lebanon-Bulgaria, Business, 7/10/1999
Engineer Faisel Makwash, the general manager of civil aviation in Lebanon said yesterday that the Lebanese civil authorities asked the civil aviation authorities in Bulgaria to stop the trips of the Bulgarian airline company, Balkan, to Beirut starting from July 15.
Makwash related this to selling most of the company's shares to two Israeli companies which contradicts the agreement to exchange air transportation services that exist between Lebanon and Bulgaria, which state that most of the company's shares must be owned by citizens of this country.
The Bulgarian ambassador in Lebanon said yesterday that he received a formal Lebanese request to stop Balkan's trips to Beirut starting from the middle of the current month.
He mentioned that the Balkans company runs two regular trips to Beirut weekly, in addition to additional trips during the summer only, permitted by the Lebanese civil aviation.
