Egypt-Israel, Politics, 7/8/1999

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is to receive Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak tomorrow in Cairo.

Israeli official sources stated that Barak is convening a series of meetings with Arab leaders before his anticipated visit to the U.S.A. in middle of the current month, during which he is to convene with U.S. President Bill Clinton.

The sources added that Barak took the initiative of convening meetings with the Arab leaders as soon as possible to relay assurances. Barak will also meet with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat on Sunday in Maebar Erez, between Israel and the Gaza Strip, as well as meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan during the coming week.

The sources stated that Barak and Arafat will discuss applying Wye River agreement during their meeting.
