Third Arab International Communication Conference in Beirut next March

Lebanon's post and communication minister, Issam Naaman, announced on Wednesday that the third Arab International Communication Conference and fair (Arabcom-2000) would be held in Beirut on March 25-28, 2000.

The Kuwaiti news agency, Kuna, quoted the Lebanese minister as saying that the conference and fair would be organized by the ministry with the participation of private companies.

He said the fact that foreign contributions in the communication sector in the Arab states was as high as 50% reflects the need to promote local and regional participation.

He said the conference would cover issues related to privatization of the communication sector, regional fiber optical cables' connections and satellite communications.

He said the Arab League, Arab governments and private companies, the European Union, the international communications union and the World Trade Organization (WTO) would be invited to attend the conference.
