King Hassan calls Morocco, Algeria to cultivate factors of unity
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 7/8/1999

King Hassan II called on Morocco and Algeria to cultivate what can unite them and appease what can divide them.

In Morocco and in Algeria, "We reached a point where we realized that it would be better to cultivate what can unite us and appease what can divide us," King Hassan II said in an interview with the French weekly Le Nouvel Observateur.

"President Bouteflika is a man whom I knew well before he became minister and well before I became King," the king said.

He described the Algerian President as "an intelligent, a very courteous man who knows to listen. He is not an easy negotiator, but he understands and accepts the difference of the other," MAP reported.

"This is very important, because up to now many of these qualities did not exist on the other part of the borders," the king said, adding, "That is why I wish President Bouteflika would succeed."
