Trial of Sheikh al-Jamri to resume in Bahrain
Bahrain, Politics, 7/6/1999
The trail of prominent Shiite leader Sheikh Abdul Hamid al-Jamri resumed today. Al-Jamri has been detained by the Bahraini authorities for three years.
Al-Jamri's lawyers expect a judgment to be issued in this case during the current week.
Al-Jamri was arrested in January 1996 after a wave of protests against the closing of some mosques whose Shiite Imams were asking for the return of the elected parliament that was dissolved in 1975.
Al-Jamri was accused of making communications with a foreign government and forming an organization aimed at toppling Bahrain's government by armed force.
