King Abdullah of Jordan visits Morocco, confers with King Hassan II
Jordan-Morocco, Politics, 7/5/1999

King Abdullah Bin Hussein of Jordan who paid a working visit to Morocco over the weekend conferred with King Hassan II on restoring Arab solidarity and on the Middle East peace process.

Part of the talks were held in tete-a-tete.

King Abdullah arrived in Morocco on Saturday and left on Sunday, part of a four-nation tour that also took him to Yemen, Sudan and Mauritania.

The tour was meant to consolidate Jordan's relations with the Arab states in political, economic, commercial and cultural fields and to discuss with the leaders of the visited countries efforts to hold an Arab summit, the first in three years, to forge a unified strategy in dealing with Israeli Prime Minister-elect Ehud Barak.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Abul Illah al-Khatib, who was a member of King Abdullah's party, told reporters the Jordanian king's visit to Morocco fell in the framework "of the continuity of the excellent ties of brotherhood between the two countries" and that it would "contribute to upgrading bilateral relations."

It is also an opportunity for the Jordanian king to learn about the Moroccan King's appraisal of various bilateral issues and concerning the situation in the Arab world, the Jordanian foreign minister said, expressing hope that the Middle East peace process would be revived and that Arab cooperation and solidarity would be fostered.
