Iraq renews rejection of the British draft project at the UN
Iraq-UN, Politics, 7/3/1999

Iraq has asserted its opposition to the British draft project debated for discussions at the UN Security Council concerning Iraq. A high-ranking Iraqi official said in Baghdad on Friday that the British draft project proposed to the UN Security Council and backed by the US "was born dead," adding that Iraq said its demand to lift the sanctions immediately and unconditionally is a responsibility borne by the UN Security Council.

For its part, the Iraqi daily al-Thawra issued in Baghdad on Friday criticized the proposed British project at the UN Security Council concerning Iraq, adding that Iraq rejects this project categorically in spirit and content.

The paper questioned how Britain would be capable of proposing a fair project for Iraq at the time when it taken part in a daily and continuous aggression against Iraq since the mid of December 1998.

The paper continued that the British have ignored that Iraq is free from nuclear weapons and is not able to produce them.

The Iraqi paper regretted the ignorance made concerning the Israeli nuclear arsenals after Iraq has implemented its obligations in order to make the Middle East a zone free from nuclear weapons.
