Lebanese president confers with US ambassador
Lebanon-UN, Politics, 7/3/1999
Lebanese President Emile Lahoud received the US ambassador to Lebanon, David Satterfield, at Babda palace on Friday. Talks during the meeting dealt with the latest developments in the region, especially the situation in south Lebanon.
In a statement following the meeting, the US ambassador reiterated his country's backing for the April Understanding and for reaching a just and comprehensive peace in the region. He added that the US wants to see the Middle East peace process proceeding forward.
Satterfield described aggressive Israeli raids Lebanon has undergone which targeted its infrastructure and civilians as an illigitimate act.
He called for the need to deal with any violation of the April Understanding through the April Understanding Monitoring Committee and not through resorting to violence.
