Islamic circles warn against campaigns of arrest in Qatar
Qatar-UK, Politics, 7/3/1999

Islamic circles in London on Friday warned the Qatari authorities against expanding a campaign of arrests that started with taking Islamic scholar Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Omeir al-Nueimi into custody on the ground that he and another 15 scholars called for making reforms inside Qatar. World capitals will witness sit-ins, in front of the Qatari embassies in order to call for releasing al-Nueimi.

An official at the Al-Marsad Al-Islami (Islamic monitor) in London said that the British authorities have officially licensed a sit-in to take place in front of the Qatari embassy in the British capital in protest of continued detention of al-Nueimi.

The source, which asked not to be identified, said that he expects that this sit-in will be the beginning of a series of large-scale protests against the government of Qatar for detaining the Islamic scholar in addition to those who are charged of the attempt to topple the regime in Qatar in 1996.
