OIC to recommend further protection to African children
Regional-Africa, Politics, 7/2/1999
The UN Children's Fund UNICEF is intended to ask the Organization of the Islamic Conference to ensure further protection for African children.
AFP quoted Rima Salah, UNICEF's regional director for West and Central Africa as saying on the sideline of the 26th conference of the OIC foreign ministers, held in Burkina Faso, that some 50 million children are facing critical conditions or are in need of special protection in this region.
Salah said, "Our very presence in this conference aims at working for ensuring the rights of African children."
Some 26 countries out of the OIC 55 members states are situated in the African continent.
