No Syrian-Israeli negotiations have taken place, Bishara says
Syria-Israel, Politics, 7/1/1999
Israeli Knesset member Azmi Bishara said there were no Syrian-Israeli negotiations, rather an exchange of messages through the US or the Eropean Union Middle East peace envoy, Miguel Moratinos.
In a statement to the Jordanian daily al-Dostour, Bishara added that there was a controversy between Israel's incoming and outgoing prime ministers, Ehud Barak and Benjamin Netanyahu, respectively, on the withdrawal from the Golan and that it was revealed that Netanyahu is ready to withdraw from the Golan, but not from all parts of the Golan.
Bishara added that there is a matter that should be debated, namely the withdrawal to the June 4, 1967 border line. He added that no Syrian-Israeli negotiations were held, noting that even the exchange of messages was a "sort of arrangement over stances and had no progress because the Syrian leadership is persistent to start the negotiations from the point which Rabin reached."
