Guinea requests Morocco's assistance in fisheries
Morocco-Guinea, Economics, 6/30/1999
Guinean minister of fisheries and agriculture, Mansa Moussa Sidibe, has requested Morocco's assistance to promote training and research in the field of maritime fisheries in his country.
The Guinean official who started on Monday a visit to Morocco made the request at a meeting with Moroccan minister in charge of fisheries, Thami Khyari.
He underlined the importance granted by his country to the promotion of partnership and cooperation with Morocco, particularly in the fields of agriculture, fisheries and related sectors.
He said Guinea would like to benefit from the Moroccan experience, especially in matters of management, research and monitoring.
Morocco and Guinea have signed a document during the visit.
Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi paid last month to Guinea, part of an African tour that had also led him to Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon and Burkina Faso.
The document defines the fields of cooperation between the two countries in the sector of fisheries.
Moroccan-Guinean cooperation is ruled by several accords, including a covenant signed in 1997 on trade and tariffs.
Trade exchanges which are steadily progressing stood at $22.36 million in 1997. Morocco's exports to Guinea are made up of canned fish and ready made garments while imports consist mainly of coffee and cotton.
