Arab lawmakers call Spain to withdraw from two Moroccan towns
Regional-Morocco-Spain, Politics, 6/30/1999

The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union called Tuesday on Spain to "withdraw from the Moroccan occupied towns of Sebta and Melilia."

The union which held its 34th session in Damascus said Spain ought to accept a proposal made by King Hassan II of Morocco to create a joint cell to ponder the future of the two cities in a way that guarantees Morocco's sovereignty over the cities and the interests of Spanish residents.

The call was made in the final statement adopted by parliamentarians from 20 Arab states, including a Moroccan delegation led by Abdelouahed Radi, speaker of the house of representatives (lower chamber of parliament).
