Israel detains four youths in the Golan
Syria-Israel, Politics, 6/30/1999
Israel's arrest of four youths in the occupied Golan has triggered a strong condemnation in the Golan in which some 16,000 Syrian citizens are living.
The Syrians refused to receive an Israeli national identity card, despite the Israeli authorities' decision to annex the Golan in 1981.
An Israeli court in Acre on Tuesday extended the detention of two youths from Majdal Shams town in the occupied Golan Heights until July 6. Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation authorities have carried out an extensive campaign of arrest in the cities and towns of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
The Israeli court accused the two Syrian youths of trying to set fire to an Israeli police center in Masaadah village and to block the road leading to Hermon Mountain in an attempt to prevent Israeli soldiers from entering the area.
During the last four weeks, the Israeli occupation forces have arrested four Syrian youths from the occupied Syrian Golan under charges of carrying out counter occupation activities.
