Syrian-Lebanese information talks conclude in Damascus
Syria-Lebanon, Economics, 6/30/1999
Media talks started on Monday between the delegations of the Syrian Information Ministry chaired by Syrian Information Minister Muhammad Salman and the Lebanese Information Ministry led by Information Minister Anwar al-Khalil.
On Tuesday the two sides completed discussions on debated issues and approval of a future cooperation program between similar media establishments in the two states.
This cooperation includes common future plans for media activities in radio, television and news agencies and also means of maintaining wide cooperation in the fields of exchanging news, press and technical expertise, documents, pictures publications and press delegations.
Stress was laid on the importance of cooperation with the foreign media with the objectives of highlighting the two countries' national stances, presenting the truth to world public opinion and countering deception campaigns and cultural invasion practiced by hostile media, as well as focusing on facts relating to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Stress was also laid on the role played by the media in marketing the political makeup of the two states from the point of view of their firm stand towards peace process basics, which are based on international UN resolutions, Israel's withdrawal to June 4, 1967 border lines and from south Lebanon and its western Bekaa.
