Meetings between Yemeni Socialist Party and Yemeni opposition leadership abroad
Yemen, Politics, 6/29/1999
Two high-ranking figures from the Yemeni Socialist Party arrived in London to meet with Ali Saleh Abbad (Muqbil), the secretary general of the party, who is making a round of contacts with leaders abroad for consultations concerning the coming Presidential elections in Yemen and who will be the candidate for the party in the presidential election.
The two Yemeni figures are Salem Saleh Muhammad, the former Yemeni vice president who is also a member of the former political bureau of the party who arrived from Jeddah, and the former Yemeni prime minister and member of the party's political bureau, Haidar Abu Baker al-Attas, who arrived from the US.
Earlier, the central committee of the Yemeni Socialist Party met in Yemen under the chairmanship of Abdullah Amre, the secretary of the political bureau of the party, in the absence of Muqbil, who is in London, basically for medical treatment.
The committee stressed its previous decision to take part in the presidential election.
Sources in the political bureau said the party has four options in the nomination for the presidency and that the strongest option is the nomination of Muqbil, because Yassin Bin Saeed is not eager to nominate himself.
