100,000 victims of terrorism in Algeria
Algeria, Politics, 6/28/1999

Algerian radio said yesterday that 100,000 persons were killed in violent actions in Algeria in the last seven years, in the first official statistics about those murdered in terrorist actions in Algeria

The radio quoted these figures as coming from an address delivered by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in Switzerland yesterday.

Bouteflika stated his intention to hold a public referendum regarding continuing with the process of national reconciliation.

This came during a press conference that was held on the margin of the Crans Montana economic forum in Switzerland, during Bouteflika's first visit abroad since being elected on April 15.

Bu Taflika said "I promised the Algerians with peace during my electoral campaign and I will make peace" confirming that he wants to regain Algeria's stability and getting it into a new era of international relations.
