Greek minister of defense in Tehran today
Iran-Greece, Politics, 6/28/1999

Greek Minister of Defense Apostolos-Athanasios Tsokhatzopoulos arrived today in Tehran on the first official visit for a defense minister of a member state in the European Union to Iran since the Islamic revolution in 1979.

Greek sources said the visit fulfills an invitation from Iranian Minister of Defense Ali Shamakhani, adding that the Greek minister will convene with high-ranking Iranian military officials.

The approach between Greece and Iran comes at a time when Turkish - Greek relations have witnessed tensions after the accusation made by the leader of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), Abdullah Ocalan, said that Greek is the one behind supplying him with weapons.

The Greek minister of defense is meeting with his Iranian counterpart, the foreign minister and high-ranking Iranian officials and he is to sign a military cooperation agreement between the two countries.
