Delegation formed for Iranian foreign minister's visit to Sudan, US position on Sudan
Sudan-USA, Politics, 6/28/1999
The delegation for Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi's visit to Sudan, which was to take place last week but was postponed, was decided for July 2 today after the meeting of foreign ministers from countries belonging to the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Ouagadougou.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese opposed the American draft presented to the U.S. Congress, which calls for establishing secured areas in the Sudanese south and arming the rebels, as it paves the way for direct foreign interference. Secretary of the international public relation department in the ruling National Conference, Abdu Allah Soleiman, said, "The draft resolution reveals new aggressive intentions against Sudan."
He stated, "Washington will work in the coming phase on creating an international and regional position that currently does not exist to convince the world of the necessity of its interference in Sudan." He called for unifying Sudan's position.
