Iraq pledges to continue supplying oil to Jordan
Iraq-Jordan, Economics, 6/28/1999

Iraqi Oil Minister Amer Muhammad Rashid and Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Suleiman Abu Aleem on Saturday signed minutes of meetings according to which Baghdad is obliged to continue providing Jordan with oil at preferential prices according to the agreement signed between the two countries in January.

The two states at the beginning of January renewed work in the oil agreement which calls for providing Jordan with 4.8 million tons of crude oil in 1999.

Half of this quantity is delivered to Jordan for free while the second half of the imported quantities is sold at preferential prices.

The Jordanian minister, who arrived in Iraq on Wednesday said his country "will continue to import the Iraqi oil and has no alternative intentions." He denied contacts with Saudi Arabia to buy the Saudi oil.
