Moroccan authorities cancels International conference on human rights
Morocco-International, Politics, 6/26/1999
The Moroccan authorities decided not to convene a conference for the International Organization for Human Rights, which was to be held in August after practicing pressures on the organization and Morocco warned the organization's secretary general of not entering its territories.
Morocco recently showed a commitment to human rights and said that it would host the international conference for human rights, but recently it abandoned its objective to be the first Arab state to agrees to host the conference.
Moroccan sources said, "Morocco refused this so that conference does not cause embarrassment to some Arab countries and the friendly ones whose people are facing pressure," adding that Morocco did not fear anything from convening the conference.
