Arab parliamentary union meets on Sunday in Damascus

The Secretary General of the Arab Parliamentary Union, Noureddine Bushkouh, said on Thursday in Damascus that the APU will hold its 34th session on Sunday.

In a meeting with reporters in Damascus, the APU secretary general said Arab parliaments will discuss "common Arab issues, means of strengthening Arab solidarity and purifying Arab atmospheres."

He added, "We hope Iraq and Kuwait would stop their disputes, and we have to pour our efforts towards liberating the territories in Palestine, the Golan and south Lebanon." He said the organization believes that, "It is ripe time to eliminate disputes and the call for a pan-Arab summit, because our very existence is threatened and the Arab nation should take a united stand on the peace process and the occupied Arab territories."

Bushkouh noted a proposal by the speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri to set up a committee in charge of maintaining Arab reconciliation and to reach Arab consensus.

He continued that a committee will be established to find solutions for certain Arab issues, including the Iraqi question and Iraq's return to the Arab arena.
