Morocco calls for contributions to Kosovo children refugees
Morocco, Culture, 6/25/1999
Morocco has initiated a large donation campaign to children refugees of Kosovo and has called Moroccan citizens to make donations at a special bank account opened at Bank-Al Maghrib (Morocco's central bank).
Placed under the patronage of King Hassan II, the operation is initiated by Princess Lalla Meriem, the King's eldest daughter, who chairs the social services of the Royal Armed Forces and the National Observatory of Children Rights.
This humanitarian gesture is destined to meet most urgent needs of the Kosovo refugees, especially children, by helping them resume a normal life.
Morocco has also granted $ 50,000 worth of food assistance to Kosovo refugees in Albania, through the World Food Program (WFP).
The Rome-based U.N. agency said the donation is the first granted by a country from the Middle East and North Africa to Kosovo refugees via the WFP, MAP reported.
The food package includes 332 tons of wheat flour, 100 tons of canned fish and 150 tons of other foodstuffs.
