Egyptian ministers' council examines outcome of president Mubarak's visit to Morocco
Egypt-Morocco, Politics, 6/24/1999
The Egyptian ministers' council examined Wednesday the outcome of the visit president Hosni Mubarak paid to Morocco earlier this month to co-chair with King Hassan II the third meeting of the Moroccan-Egyptian high joint commission.
Egyptian Information Minister Safwat Sherif, told reporters after the council meeting that the ministers looked into the outcome of President Mubarak's visits to Algeria and Morocco and the summit political-economic talks held on the occasion.
The council also examined the call launched by King Hassan II and President Mubarak for the holding of an Arab summit that will discuss the latest developments in the Arab region and the challenges thrown at the Arab nation, Sharif said.
During their meeting earlier this month in Rabat, King Hassan II of Morocco and president Mubarak called for the holding of an Arab summit and discussed the idea "in detail."
President Mubarak had said that the present situation in the Arab world requires the holding of a summit and that the two heads of state have converging standpoints on the matter that they discussed in detail.
The Arab League, the Arab Parliamentary Union (APU) and several countries have welcomed the call to convene the summit. The latest Arab summit was held in Cairo in June 1996 with the participation of all Arab countries, except Iraq.
