Iraq: Any proposal on removing sanctions needs our comsultation
Iraq-UN, Politics, 6/24/1999
Iraq reiterated its opposition to the British draft proposal presented to the United Nations Security Council regarding the sanctions imposed on Iraq, a proposal described by Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan as a clear interference in Iraq's internal affairs.
Ramadan said, "Iraq refuses all drafts which do not refer to lifting the siege off Iraq clearly, and that the British draft is nothing but converting the limited siege period to a permanent one."
He also said there are still discussions and communications continuing to reach a solution.
He urged the United Nations to lift the sanctions and demanded compensation for Iraq's losses due to the sanctions, saying that any draft created without consulting Iraq is not of concern to Iraq.
