Baghdad: UN envoy discusses oil-for-food agreement
Iraq, Politics, 6/24/1999
Emel Tefan, coordinator of humanitarian affairs affiliated to U.N in Iraq, resumed his discussions with the Iraqi officials regarding implementing the oil-for-food agreement.
The official's visit comes at the beginning of the third stage of the oil-for-food agreement which permits Iraq to export petroleum to purchase essential needs of food and medicine.
Meanwhile, Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf said his country broke the isolation around it and that Iraq is no longer isolated. He added that the US goals are not limited only against Iraq but the whole area.
He said his country is ready to establish direct talks with parties which oppose the Iraqi stance, adding that the best way to illuminate their concern is a responsible and calm discussion.
