Emir of Bahrain meets Sheikh Zayed
United Arab Emirates-Bahrain, Politics, 6/24/1999

Emir of Bahrain Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa al-Khaleifa arrived on Wednesday night in Abu Dhabi from Egypt. The United Arab Emirates' news agency said Sheikh Hamad met with UAE President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan and discussed with him the "situation in the Gulf region and the Arab world, as well as bilateral cooperation between the two countries."

Sheikh Hamad and President Mubarak on Tuesday in Cairo called for convening an Arab summit, the establishment of peace in the Middle East and intensifying efforts to lift the sanctions imposed on Iraq since August 1990.

Gulf sources assured that "the visit of prince of Bahrain comes in the framework of a mediation made by Bahrain to reconcile the Saudi and Emirate points of view in light of the existing tension between the two countries."

Sheikh Hamad assumed power in Bahrain following the death of his father, Sheikh Issa Bin Salman al-Khaleifa, in March.
