Tehran criticizes US claims concerning Iranian defense programs

The Iranian Defense Ministry has strongly criticized US claims concerning Iranian defense programs. It stressed that the attempts made to promote these claims are groundless and that they are rather an attempt to obstruct the development of relations and the atmosphere of confidence in the Gulf region.

The spokesman for the Iranian Defense Ministry, Kewan Khsrawi, said in a statement in Tehran on Wednesday that the defense activities carried out by Iran are legitimate efforts in order to strengthen its defense capabilities, adding that claims and statements made by US Undersecretary of State for Middle East Affairs Martin Indyk were baseless.

Khsrawi said that attempts made by Washington to create disputes in the region, are of great concern because it targets finding tensions in the region to justify the foreign presence in the area.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that Indyk's claims are mere lies aimed at directing public opinion from the dangers of the Israeli entity and to sell more weapons to the countries of the region under the pretext of warning against the Iranian armament program.
