WFP concerned with possible food shortage in African Horn
Somalia-Regional-UN, Politics, 6/23/1999
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said that a recent drought in the African Horn area could cause shortages of food in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. Lack of rain in the Ethiopian highlands has meant low water levels in Somali rivers, the WFP said. It added that areas that are especially at risk of poor crops include the Juba Valley, parts of Bay and Bakool, as well as Somaliland's agricultural areas.
