Morocco seeks to devise strategy to fight corruption
Morocco, Politics, 6/23/1999

Moroccan general affairs minister, Ahmed Lahlimi, called for devising a strategy to fight corruption that botches development efforts in Morocco.

The minister made the call at a World Bank-sponsored seminar held in Casablanca with several Moroccan and foreign experts attending.

"The struggle against corruption should be based on a wise and rational strategy," Lahlimi said, urging enterprises and civil society representatives to join efforts to eradicate the plague. World Bank director for the Maghreb, Christian Delvoix, hailed the Moroccan government's determination to fight corruption and liberalize its economic system.

He added that Morocco's reform program is among the main policies backed up by the World Bank.
