Bouteflika receives warm brotherly message from King Hassan
Algeria-Morocco, Politics, 6/23/1999
King Hassan II has sent President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria "a warm, brotherly and exhaustive" message.
The Royal message was conveyed on Monday to the Algerian head of state by Moroccan minister of the interior Driss Basri, who was visiting Algeria to take part in the 5th conference of interior ministers of western Mediterranean countries.
This is the first official contact on a high ranking level between the two states since 1994.
Basri told reporters in Algiers that he conveyed the Algerian president "a warm, brotherly and exhaustive" message from King Hassan II and that president Bouteflika voiced the same feelings and expressed the same determination.
"The Royal message and the Message that President Bouteflika entrusted me with conveying to H.M King Hassan II bring hope and optimism for the future of the two brotherly peoples, the two countries and the Arab Maghreb," Basri said.
In the morrow of the new Algerian President's election last April, both King Hassan II and Bouteflika had voiced determination to upgrade cooperation ties between the two countries and to revive the Arab Maghreb Union, which also musters Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania.
