UAE president receives a message from Arafat

United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan on Tuesday received a message from Palestinian President Yasser Arafat pertaining to developments in the Middle East peace process, the current Arab situation and relations between the UAE and the Palestinian Authority.

The message was conveyed by the secretary of the PLO executive committee, Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), who met with Sheikh Zayed in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Following his meeting with Sheikh Zayed, Abu Mazen said he discussed with the UAE president the situation in the Middle East, the Middle East peace process and the international efforts exerted to resume these talks in light of the recent Israeli elections.

He added that talks also dealt with current contacts to convene an Arab summit and to strengthen Arab solidarity, as well as current international matters, their reflections on the Arab situation and fraternal relations and cooperation between the UAE and the Palestinian government and means of supporting development programs in the Palestinian territories.
