Arab states meet in Yemen examine opportunities in tourism sector

Meetings of the second session of the council of the Arab tourism ministers started in Sanaa on Tuesday.
In an inaugural speech, Yemeni Prime Minister Abdul Karim al-Iryani stressed that the Yemeni government will spare no effort in implementing the decisions concluded by the summit and the recommendations the gathering reaches.
In his capacity as chairman for the first session of the council Syrian Tourism Minister Danhu Dawoud underlined the importance of joint Arab action to achieve the national objectives of the Arab nation.
The Syrian minister called for further Arab cooperation and coordination in support of the inter-Arab tourism industry. On Monday night, the executive committee of the Arab federation for hotels and tourism led by the federation's chairman, Othman al-Aidi, concluded its meetings following full discussions of its work agenda.
Members of the committee were acquainted with the efforts exerted to prepare the Arab tourism directory both in Arabic and English. They stressed the importance of continuing efforts to issue the united Arab tourism map.
Members of the committee approved the formation of several subcommittees in the area of hotels, restaurants, tourism offices, training, qualification and tourism promotion.
Members of the committee also called for lifting the embargo imposed on the Iraqi people, and the restoration of its right. It expressed hope that Sudan would restore back its territorial integrity.
El-Rahman El-Sahibani, Arab League assistant secretary general for economic affairs, stated that the Arab states own 14 million kilometers of coasts and 60% of the world's archeology, but they receive only 3% of world tourism volume with a revenue of $18 billion from a world total of $400 billion.
