A Saudi nominated as OPEC secretary
Regional, Economics, 6/22/1999
The Middle East Economic Survey issued in Nicosia on Monday said that Saudi Arabia will nominate its representative to OPEC's council of secretaries, Suleiman al-Harbish, to assume the post of OPEC secretary general.
The bulletin added that al-Harbish would be the first Saudi to be appointed to such a post in 30 years, as this post will be empty after the termination of the term of Nigerian Rilwanu Lukman who has been in this post since 1995.
OPEC will meet on this issue in next September.
Saudi Arabia has occupied this post only one time since the establishment of the foundation 39 years ago, when the Saudi Muhammad Jukhadar assumed the post of this office in 1967 for only one year.
