Message to King Abdullah of Jordan from Khatami

King Abdullah of Jordan on Sunday in Amman received a message from Iranian President Muhammad Khatami pertaining to bilateral relations between the two countries and the desire of the Iranian leadership to strengthen relations with Jordan in the context of fostering Iranian-Arab relations and relations with the Islamic states.
The message, delivered by Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi, currently visiting Jordan, during his meeting with the king on Sunday, extended an invitation to King Abdullah to visit Iran at a time that suits the king.
Means of backing bilateral relations in all fields within the framework of pan-Islamic Arab cooperation on the basis of confidence, good neighborhood and settling problems amicably were discussed.
During his meeting with Kharazi, Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh said Jordan concentrates highly on its relations with the Islamic states, adding that Iran has a special position among those states. Al-Rawabdeh said, "We are seeking to build remarkable relations with the Islamic states in order to build a united Arab and Islamic line so as to preserve the rights."
He called for building an economic bloc to counter other economic blocs. He called for respecting the special internal, local, regional and international conditions of each state and the need of mutual respect, cooperation and non-intervention in the internal affairs.
The Jordanian prime minister noted his country's desire to build relations with Iran on the grounds of fraternlty and common interests. Kharazi, for his part expressed happiness over developing and strengthening relations between Jordan and Iran. He stressed that common indicators are linking the two peoples, calling for exerting efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.
Kharazi expressed Iran's complete readiness to strengthen relations with Jordan. He added that the recent Islamic conference which was held in Tehran had eliminated several obstacles existing among the Islamic countries and deepened relations between Iran and the Arab states.
Later in the day, Kharazi competed talks he had already started on Saturday with his Jordanian counterpart, Abdul Illah al-Khatib. Talks between the two ministers dealt with means of strengthening cooperation between the two countries, politically, economically and culturally; regional issues of mutual concern, means of strengthening Arab-Islamic cooperation and solidarity and settling problems by peaceful means.
