Report: Iraq refuses to discuss Lebanese prisoners file
Lebanon-Iraq, Politics, 6/21/1999
French Top Urgent news bulletin said that Baghdad still refuses to release 16 prisoners who are members of the Lebanese Hizbullah Party, including six men of religion, despite the intervention of the Lebanese official authorities to win their release.
The French news bulletin reported that the Iraqi authorities arrested those Lebanese prisoners in Mao battle during the Iraqi-Iranian war as well as during the invasion of Kuwait.
The bulletin added that Baghdad refuses to discuss this issue with Beirut because it views these "Lebanese prisoners" as Iranian prisoners of war and because they will be released within the operations of future exchanges of prisoners with Tehran.
