Former US Secretary of State meets with al-Shara

US former secretary of state James Baker met this evening with Syrian President Hafez Al-Assad. Earlier today, Baker said in statements to the press in Damascus following his meeting with Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Sharaa that there is a "window of opportunity" to achieve peace in the M.E. region. Baker, accompanied by former US ambassador in Damascus, Edward Djerjian, who is also the chairman of the James Baker institute visited the Syrian archaeological city of Palmyra.
