Abu Zeid: African water resources not properly utilized

Egyptian Minister of Public Works and Water Resources Mahmoud Abu Zeid said yesterday at the "Coming Danger, 21st Century" symposium that the Nile basin countries have 1,600 billion cubic meters of water resources available each year, but utilize only 600 billion cubic meters per year. He said that wars will not be fought in the next century over water if water resources are used properly.
He continued that there are projects in the works in the Nile basin countries to use water resources in development projects.
Abu Zeid also added that Egypt will not be forced to supply water from the Nile to Israel while Egypt needs water.
