Morocco, France agree to renew cooperation convention
Morocco-France, Politics, 6/19/1999

Morocco and France agreed Friday in Rabat to renew and update the cultural, scientific and technical convention sealed between the two countries in 1984.

To this end, a joint commission was set up to elaborate by end of this June the new cooperation convention meeting the two countries aspirations and socioeconomic priorities.

At the end of the two-day meeting of their standing cooperation committee, the two countries stressed the need to enhance and diversify their partnership in the technical, cultural and scientific fields.

Morocco voiced the wish to see France increasing technical assistance for the development of the skills of human resources to endow the Kingdom with the necessary tools to counter the next millennium challenges.

Paris said it will back all Morocco's educational, cultural and vocational training projects and will spare no efforts to ensure success to the Kingdom's development programs.

France also voiced readiness to assist Morocco in matters of land development and environment protection.

The French minister in charge of cooperation, Charles Josselin, who headed his country's delegation to the Moroccan-French standing committee meeting, held talks with several Moroccan officials including Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Benaissa.

Talks focused on bilateral relations, Morocco-European Union cooperation, Euro-Mediterranean partnership and topical issues of common concern.
